Day 18 - Out of Place

The example image that this prompt gave was a plastic flamingo in a pile of plants, and I just could not help but think that I could EASILY come up with something more interesting than that, it seemed so low effort and corny to just throw a plastic animal in strange situations. So my search began. You know when you say a word too much and it loses all meaning and starts to sound like a foreign language? That is how finding an out of place image became for me. I started to drift into a trance, thinking that maybe nothing is ever out of place and the idea that I would ever assume so says so much about my unrealistic expectations of yada yada yada… it went like that for a while.

In the darkness of my fever dream-like state, I was staring out into oblivion and saw the picture I took of this little vine. And you know what? That alien looking appendage anchoring that little basic vine to my barn is completely out of place on that vine. What an absolutely outlandish evolutionary trait, and how incredibly exotic its look! I am borderline obsessive with plants and this guy threw even me for a loop. Problem solved. Mission accomplished.

Sometimes the answers really do come to you when you are not looking for them.

Anyways, this is a photograph of a Virginia Creeper vine ever climbing towards the sun. The red pads are called hold fasts, and they do just that: they keep the vine anchored to whatever it is trying to climb. I’m off to go contemplate if I am actually the one out of place. Send help if I’m not back by morning. Bring snacks.
