Day 31 - Whatever I Want

Well, we did it friends. We made it to the end. That was uhh… that was a lot more work than I anticipated. But you know what? I had an absolute blast and I hope you did as well.

This picture is not some deep meta commentary on anything, and I do not have a moving story to tell you to really tie the entire experience together, so I am sorry in advance. As I was outside wandering around on an overly hot Missouri day, my little Ella came running to me with this dragonfly on her thumb. She was thrilled because it landed on her, and she was obviously now a Disney princess. The grass was fresh cut and aromatic; everyone had shoes stained an electric green. The sun was about to set, the insects deafening, and the sound of play was all around. It smelled and felt like summer in all the best ways. The dragonfly lifted off of her thumb and flew away, and she went back to the joyful frolic of a nine year old with a laugh that calms me like cool water.

I guess that this picture is exactly what the medium was created for. I was able to capture a memory, and now I can view it and in a tiny way, I can relive it. I stole a little bit of light in a moment. I get in my own head often about my purpose as a photographer; if I am being true to myself or if I am wasting my money by continuing the journey. But the truth is, I am able to capture memories. I don’t care if they are technically perfect or if they are even appealing to look at, they let me see the past.

Thanks for sticking around, go take some pictures!
